What is functional fitness?

Functional fitness is a type of exercise that trains the body for everyday movements. It is often used to help people lose weight, improve their posture, and increase their strength.
Different from traditional exercises that focus on one muscle group at a time, functional fitness improves the body’s ability to work together as one unit.
It is characterized by using compound movements (e.g., squats) and natural motions (e.g., walking).

Some of the benefits include:

  • Improving posture
  • Increasing strength
  • Losing weight
  • Improving coordination

The goal of functional fitness is to improve your quality of life, not to lose weight. The exercises are typically done at a slower pace with less repetitions than traditional exercise routines.
In a world where the majority of people are overweight and obese, it is essential to make sure that you are doing all you can to maintain a healthy weight. One way to do this is by incorporating functional fitness into your routine.
Functional fitness is an exercise that focuses on strengthening the body in ways that mimic real life movements. It was developed with the idea of working out in mind and not just for physical appearance. This type of workout has been shown to be more effective for weight loss than traditional workouts because it strengthens muscles and joints while also improving balance, coordination, and stability.
It is a way to help people lose weight and improve their overall health. It combines all different types of exercises that are designed to help people move better and feel better in their bodies.

I’ve been in and around fitness my whole adult life. I love the fitness industry and love my job. I have a real passion in helping others! My passion for fitness probably stemmed from my 9-year career in the British Army. This then led me onto to do a degree in Sport Science. I graduated from university with a first-class honours Degree!

I have experience with training elite athletes in Women’s Football, providing fitness sessions for a female Netball Team, elite Sailing team at youth level and providing fitness tests for Southampton FC’s under 23’s. My time in university I managed to design and implement my own Goalkeeper agility test that was used at an elite level. Finally, my name is on a published article, which is physiology based. My experience gives me all the tools as a Personal Trainer needed to guide you along your fitness journey, regardless of age, gender or fitness ability.

On the rare occasion my life doesn’t revolve around fitness I follow different sports, but mainly my beloved Liverpool Football Club (Don’t let that put you off).

My extensive experience and qualifications give me all the tools needed to successfully help you hit your goals. But it’s my passion and love for my job that I believe makes me the right personal trainer for you!
